The only thing I disagree with is that being in a relationship is more expensive. As a single person, you may live in a one bedroom apartment that costs $1000 per month. As a couple you can get a 2 bedroom that costs $1500. Still cheaper per person. As a couple, you can share your pots and pans, a TV, and a Netflix membership. You can buy in bulk which is cheaper.
